Mutton aaloo (lamb and potato curry)
Hello everyone,
Today's special is mutton aaloo. Yep many of you have heard about this. Mutton aaloo gravy is made in numerous ways. I have posted mutton curry earlier. Mutton aaloo is different from mutton korma as it has more starch content and it has flavours of aaloo. Mutton aaloo is cooked in spicy curry. It is often enjoyed the most with naan or rice.
Aaloo is known as potato and mutton is known as meat and together when they are cooked,it makes aaloo mutton. This recipe is so delicious that even aaloo is flavourful. This recipe is enjoyed by everyone. This recipe has various versions, some likes it in thick version and some in think creamy recipe. Across India some cooks aaloo gosht with coconut while some with curd. I am sharing recipe using curd. I have made it in pressure cooker and it's the easiest way to cook. Let's get started
Ingredients
4 tbsp. Oil
4 big onion paste
1tbsp. Ginger garlic paste
1kg mutton pieces
4 large potatoes cut into medium quater
1/2 kg curd
1tbsp. Ginger garlic paste
Salt to taste
1/4teaspoon turmeric
1/2 tbsp. Red chilli powder
1tbsp. Coriander powder
Directions
1. Take 4 large onions and make a fine paste.
2. Now take pressure cooker and add oil to it. Add khada masale like black pepper, cloves, tej patta, green cardamom, black elaichi to the oil. Let it chatter for few seconds.
3. Add onion paste and ginger garlic paste to it and saute until oil seperate this will take about 7 minutes on high flame.
4. Now add curd 1/2 kg to it and saute. Let the Masala fry for 10 more minutes. You will see oil starts seperating slowly.
5. Now add masala like red chilli powder, coriander powder, garam masala, salt to it. Saute it for a minute .
6. Now add mutton pieces to it and saute. Add 2 cups of water as you don't want masala to stick. At this point we will not add aaloo as they will cook easily in pressure cooker with two whistles. First we have to soften the mutton so that it's easily tearable by spoon.
7 . After masala starts leaving oil, add mutton pieces to it. Now give it a mix. Check if more water is required. We will make thick gravy but pressure cooking requires little water otherwise masala will stick to the bottom.
8. Now close the lid and allow pressure cook for about 8 whistles. This will soften the meat well and releases all the aromas.
9 . After 6 full whistles, open the lid and check if mutton is softened. If not , depending on how more to be cooked as per your requirement, give more whistles. For us 6 full whistles just works fine.
10. Now add potatoes washed properly and allow two more whistles. This will soften both the potatoes and meat more. Now open the lid and check again. The potatoes and meat should be properly cooked by now.
11. Serve hot with rice or naan.
Bon appetite!!!
